Becoming a cuckoo clock designer was a natural progression for Jodie. One she was reminded of while preparing for her and Mark’s wedding in her barn. Borrowed from Harley and Delight, the hay bale pews lining the aisle of the barn were covered in dozens of quilts she had designed for the dozens of books she has written. It is natural for her to design things she loves. Why not cuckoo clocks?

Becoming a cuckoo clock maker was a big leap. Jodie knew fabric and sewing machines, but woodworking? As she soon discovered, working with wood isn’t that much different than fabric. There is still the issue of seam allowances! With cuckoo clocks, those joins aren’t on a flat plane. So Jodie kicked her spatial design skill up from two dimensions to 3-D.

Designing cuckoo clocks flung the door wide open to work with materials unsuitable for quilts. What a fascinating exploration! And the best part is meeting knowledgeable folks along the way who are eager to share the joy they have in making stuff. And become friends, and part of the team!
